LAGERWIEDE, 4K, colour, sound, 03’28’’.

This is a special village. Not so much because of the people, but because of what Lagerwiede has in abun- dance: water. There’s so much water that there’s no more room for streets. In Lagerwiede, an hour lasts longer than anywhere else. Life has been like this here for seventy years. Everything changed, but the problems remain.

KUNST & VRIENDSCHAP, 4K, colour, sound, 04’36’’

The village band, Kunst en Vriendschap (Art and Friendship), once again blows Jan Mul’s Fanfare in Es. Since 1958 they haven’t touched gold, yet it is the mirage of the prize that drives them: they rehearse as if dreaming of victory — but always end in discord.

RUNNING OUT OF PACE, 4K, colour, sound,  03’34”

Divided by petty quarrels that steal their time, the band runs disoriented toward the contest.

Close your eyes to the changes, and you might be enchanted. Look elsewhere, and you must convince yourself that things will turn out well. Look away a third time, and you might be too late.

WHEN THE WATER RISES AND THE MUSIC DOESN’T CONVINCE, 4K, colour, sound, 06’24’’

“Water is as it is conciliatory, as much an enemy as a friend.” – from the original script of Jan Blokker for the film Fanfare.
